Background and Purpose: People with unconventional sexual preferences face a variety of sociocultural and contextual factors, and challenges. This study aimed to investigate the experiences of sociocultural and contextual factors that affect unconventional sexual attitudes and behaviors.
Method: In this qualitative study, the narrative analysis method was used. The statistical population included all adolescents and young people with unconventional sexual preferences in Alborz province, in the last six months of 1402 and the first six months of 1403. Among the patients referred to the Mehrafzaie Zendegi Psychological Institute, 16 people with unconventional sexual orientations were purposefully selected based on the theoretical saturation rule. The desired data was collected and analyzed through semi-structured interviews. By manually categorizing similar semantic units, the main themes and their subthemes were extracted.
Results: Findings of socio-cultural and contextual factors affecting non-traditional sexual attitudes and behaviors showed through narrative analysis; in this study, there are three main themes: problems and challenges related to school and academic affairs, gender stereotypes, and factors that underlie and exacerbate the socio-cultural status of individuals, and nine subthemes.
Conclusion: Based on the findings, it can be said that cultural, social, and contextual factors play a large role in the behavioral problems and attitudes of individuals with unconventional sexual behaviors.
